Baby Matt

Hi all! Today my boyfriend and I started a blog for our little guy. We are putting pictures and movies of all of us on there. So check it out: www.baby-matt.blogspot.com ! Baby Matt is the best thing that ever happend to us. He was an unplanned pregnancy, or a surprise package as I like to call it. But my world wouldnt nearly be so bright! He is the best thing that has ever happend in my life, he is the best thing I have ever done! I love watching him grow up. He is only 4 months old (seems like longer) and he has learned so much! He has learned how to smile, laugh, how to stand up (with help), how to hold a rattle, and just recently he is learning how to eat real food. We started him out on squash, and a night ago he had his first bits of apple sauce. He deffinetly like the apple sauce better then the squash. The next thing on the agenda for him to try is banannas. That will be really exciting. Here is a clip of him first eating squash:

Mostly Music

This blog is mostly about music. But one of my other interests is a TV show called Star Trek. Yes, I am a nerd! But, the sad thing about Star Trek today is that it seems to be dieing. There are no plans for a new Star Trek movie or series. I was exremely disappointed in the last series "Enterprise". I did not really like it. This is comming from a person who has been a Star Trek fan ever since she was a little girl. I used to play Star Trek in my room when I was a kid. This new series "Enterprise" had a storyline that started before Captain Kirk (Star Trek the origanl series). The reason I think this series failed, is the storyline. I dont think anyone is interested in what happened before Captain Kirk. It is my opinion that people are more interested in the future. What happened after "Star Trek Voyager". When the "Star Trek Voyager" crew finally found their way home. How did that impact the Earth, Starfleet, etc. It is sad to me that Star Trek is loosing support in Hollywood. But one thing I can guarentee is that it is not loosing fan support. Check out this web site: www.newvoyages.com

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen. But it shows just how far people will go when they love something.

A flute journey

About a month ago I spent $1000 on a new flute. The very first flute I owned was a $100 armstrong beginner flute. You know the solid nickle kind. The second flute I owned was a $700 silver plated gimindhardt. On this flute we really got ripped off. We(my parents and I ) did not know what we where doing when we bought it. This flute is really not worth more then $300 at the most. But it was ok until I grew out of it.
From there I got my first really wonderful flute. A yamaha allegro. Now if you are in the market for a flute I would highly recomend it. At the time I bought it, it was $1100, now a days it is more like $1500. Picture of an Allegro Flute
As you can see(or cant see) the allegro has a gold mouth piece. The head joint is also solid silver. The body of the flute is silver plated. It has an off set g and a low b gizmo (yes it is called a gizmo, I will write more on that later). But this is a great flute if you are looking for a pre proffesional. It got me through college auditions, many many gigs such as weddings and orchestras. But after a while you do grow out if it if you are looking to advance. It is also a great flute for someone who is not looking to be a pro but wants a good flute just the same on a limited budget.
Enough raveing about the allegro. But the flute I just purchased is a haynes. This haynes was made in 1960, the serial number starts with a 3. The entire thing is solid silver and it plays beautifly. The one thing that I dont like is that is french style. Which means that the mouth hole is cut smaller then more modern flutes. And it is harder to get a big sound. But on the other side of the equation small sound is easy to get out of it. When I play it is harder for me to get a soft sound, so it actually works well. This flute also does not have a low b key, but I am planning on purchesing an alternative foot joint as well as a new head joint. Anyway, that is a my flute journey.
**guess what the spell check still doesnt work, if you know how to use it please enlighten me. I am not the greatest speller so it comes in really handy***

Rent

When I was a junior in high school I went to see "Rent" on broadway. It was really loud :) And I just tongight saw the movie. One thing that I really liked about the movie more than the broadway version is that I understood the story a lot more! It was easier to understand, mostly because they could do back sceenes. Such as putting pictures to what the singer was singing about. The actor that plays Mark, has the most wonderful voice! I would discribe it, from a womens perspective, as handsome. The great thing also about this movie is that the actors are the same as the ones in the broadway production except for Mimi and one other. I think I heard it is because Mimi had a baby. Anyhooters, check out the movie I enjoyed it.
***Once again cant figure out how to use the damn spell check***

A Cappella

Well, I had a great day! It started off going to school, then work, and I ended my day with this wonderful concert. In Brattleboro Vermont there is no lack of the arts. Every weekend there are three concerts, art shows, ballet performances, you name it Brattleboro's got it. This weekend there was this huge charity event at the Latches Theater. (a little on the theater. This is a movie theater that has been in Bratt(brattleboro) for many many years. It also has a huge stage that people perform in. It is the biggest theater in Brattleboro.) This charity event is the "Colliegic A Cappella Concert. It featured a cappella groups from Holyoke College(the V-8's), Smith College (the smifinpoofs, the Vibes), Brown College (the jaberwalks), Weslyn college (the Quazimodles). These a cappella groups are not ordinary groups. Each contains one member of our community, weather they originally came from Brattleboro Union High School or Leland and Gray High School(a neighbor to Bratt). And it is just an amazing night, filled with lots of music, laughs, and fun. The most talented group where the smifinpoofs from Smith. In this group was my friend from high school Louisa. They where AMAZING!!! They where the best a cappella group I've ever heard!! They where an all girls group, and they where well rehursed, extremely tight. Just amazing. Anyway, if you are in the area on March 4th 2007 I recomend this concert highly. You are guarenteed a good time!

My first post-

My boyfriend is the one who turned me on to blogging. He has a blog, Monkey Dog Cafe. I thought I might give it a shot! I had no idea what to write, so he (lets call him truevox) said write about who I am. So here goes: I am a 19 year old mom who works and goes to college. My baby is 4 months old, his name is Matt. I am attending Keene State College and pursuing my double degree in music education and performance, I also have a minor in psycology. My major instrument (as you might have guessed) is flute.
You might wonder how one does all of this, I wonder too sometimes. I admit it is hard! The hardest of all is learning how to be a mom! So if you are a mom, I understand!! I understand how finding the time to do laundry is a luxery, and getting out with your friends is like a week vacation. But I love him and I will have posts about him.
